Hope you must have gone through the first part and can understand how mastering a mind is an important virtue. In this section, I will talk about a few more virtues suggested by Robin Sharma and will walk a little deeper into how this impacts our lives.
The next Virtue is “Purpose of life”.
Can you ask a question to yourself?
- What drives you in your life?
- Are you chasing any goals in your life?
- Have you understood the purpose of your life?
We all need to understand that the biggest gift that we can get is ‘life’ itself. We all are alive and we must be grateful to God for each breath we take, all should have a purpose and we should return something to our society that could help the livelihood of people and leave some legacy for the next generation.
The purpose of life is a life of a purpose. Set clear personal, professional, and spiritual goals. Staying focused on your goal is utter most important and keep working to achieve it. Often people are not aware of themselves and keep driven by society or the people near us like poppets. We never realized our core values and what is best in us. We just need to use our wisdom which can be achieved by thinking calmly when a day starts. Think in a quiet environment and write down the short-term and long-term goals. Below are the characteristics of goals.
- We should have a clear vision of purpose – What we are looking to achieve by the end of life?
- Be positive about yourself – always remind yourself that “You can do it!!”
- Setting end date – Every purpose or goal must have some end date.
- Take action for 21 days – As per the author, if you continue to adopt any new habits for 21 days. After that, this will be part of your life.
- Enjoy the journey – It is very essential to enjoy the journey else you may leave the purpose in between. Always try to add some fun that you could enjoy and the overall journey would have excited you.
The next Virtue will be “Practice Kaizen”
Kaizen is a Japanese word which is used by Japanese businesses during World War 2. Kaizen is a practice to achieve continuous improvement. There is always scope for improvement in every process, in every aspect of life, and of course within ourselves. The best way to improve is to keep working on what you are scared of most. If your life is in mess this is because your fear is just stronger than your faith. The area where the discomfort lies is also an area where you will get lots of improvement opportunities.
Remember, Self-improvement is the key to self-mastery. Self-mastery is the key to life-mastery.
For instance, if you don’t have a reading habit, try to engage yourself with some interesting book in your domain. If someone feels lethargic towards exercise, they should start practicing for exercise, maybe for 5-10 min on starting days, and slowly increase the timings.
As per Robin Sharma, below are a few steps that can be taken toward Kaizen:
- Solitude – To reset your mind, try to spend 10-20 min with yourself.
- Physical activities –A healthy, active body has more energy for achieving your goals. So do physical exercise on daily basis.
- Live Nourishment – Eat some healthy food like fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc.
- Enhance Abundant Knowledge – Spend 30 minutes a day reading. Be selective with choices. Read something that improves, not just entertains, you.
- Personal Reflection – Review yourself at the end of the day. What went well or what can be done in a better way?
- Early Awakening – Rise with the sun. It is not important how much you sleep but sleep quality is more important like how deep sleep you regularly or take 30min nap during your daytime.
- Music – Try to listen to some good music that can inspire you.
- Spoken Word – Develop a habit to talk to yourself. Appreciate yourself for your tiny success and encourage yourself to remain positive.
- Congruent Character – Your habits create your character. What habits don’t align with whom you want to be?
- Simplicity – Try to be simple as possible. It hardly matters which car you drive or what brand of cloth your wear, cloth should be decent that only matters.
Guys, I know you must be feeling that all these Gyan are good to hear, and implementing them in real or practical life would be difficult. Why we should bother about all these virtues, but believe me this creates the difference between ordinary and extraordinary people, successful and unsuccessful people. Thanks for reading till now, let’s move to the 3rd part of this series.
I agree with it so far! Very nicely written, Mr. Amit!
