Self-driven – leadership -Turbulent Times Build Great Leaders

“Lead yourself first, only then will you get to a place as a person where you can lead other people”

When I started my career, I was always thinking of leadership as someone who manages the resources assigns the task, instructs them, does an appraisal, and keeps monitoring their progress. But now with experience, I can understand this is completely wrong and that no position is required to show leadership skills. One of the myths where everyone asking for power or defined roles to begin leaders. Leadership does not have any dependency on roles or titles. Leadership comes from our thought process and instinct of doing something. It automatically comes if someone wants to perform his job sincerely and with the fullest quality. Someone who ensures to give 100% to their work. The task can influence someone to do their work with similar dedication. Work that can do some innovations, which can embrace changes. Leadership is about taking responsibility, someone who can take ownership of failures and is ready to give success credit to others.

The all-time best example of leadership is Mahatma Gandhi, he was not holding any position in any organization nor holding any position in Government. He simply set examples for others to make themselves influenced to come forward to fight for freedom.  I have read the Book “My experiments with Truth”, which is highly influential and motivated me to keep moving in the right direction. Irrespective of how hard or how the path is difficult or uncomfortable. One can’t achieve leadership in the comfort zone. Great leaders always become great leaders in turbulent situations only.  Harder times are the best times to get new opportunities. Total commitment is a crucial quality for those who want to reach the top and spread this quality to everyone.

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone” – Neale Donald Walsch”

Real leaders are always improving – and raising their benchmark on how excellently they can perform and how quickly they can move to the next level. Problems and difficulties are good for you. Fear can stop you to take chances and always looking for comfort. But wonders won’t happen in the comfort, you have to go into the uncomfortable zone. So embrace the fear and be ready to take a calculated risk. The brave eat their fear before fear eats them. Remember, the bigger the risks that you take, the larger the rewards you will get. Keep moving forward. Obstacles just show up to measure how badly you want something. Take examples of all our great leaders. They shined in the uncomfortable zone. They fight and set a great example for the rest of the world. Difficult time is the ones that reveal what you’re made of and what kind of leader or person you are. Those who overcome the heavy winds can able to feel the freshness of the air.

Bigger the ego, the weaker the performance. Leaders won’t have an ego. They accept the truth gracefully. The mind can expose new ideas only if original dimensions. The more you do the things which scared to do, the more you show leadership. Anytime you try something new, it gives you the feeling of weirdness and you’re making mistakes. But at the same time refusing the change is almost refusing new opportunities. Leaders always welcome changes and accept them without any resistance. Leaders live with persistence and patience to accept the changes.

Benjamin Franklin is a great scientist and a great Freedom Fighter for the USA. His effort towards scientific innovation and USA’s struggling period is still remembered and gave direction to build a great nation. Superb leaders also employ encouraging, supportive, and positive words that provoke others into dazzling action. Just look at what leaders like Joh F. Kennedy, Gandhi, Mandela, and Martin Luther King Jr. were able to do through the sheer power of their words. A leader’s words are to uplift and inspire others to move forward to take action. Leadership vocabulary does not talk to discourage anyone, their vocabulary is always to improve the energy level within the team. Leading from the front and ignoring the mistake, giving opportunities to come out from blunders.

I am highly impressed with A P J Abdul Kalam in my generation. The great Scientist known as the missile man of India. He also performed the role of President of India. But their role is not to justify his leadership skills. He is beyond any role and inspires many youngsters with numerous examples. He defines a leader as someone who has vision and passion and is not afraid of any problem. Instead, he should know how to defect it. Most importantly, he must work with integrity and creativity. Creative leadership is vital for any organization, government, or sector.

With this, I would like to conclude that leadership is all about passion, commitment, and never-give-up even if a failure. Leadership developed in turbulent situations and has nothing to do with power or any title.

Just say to yourself that “I will persist until I win”

Keep giving your feedback and writing emails. I would be happy to help you. Good luck!!!
